Global Warming
Well, it is January 7, 2012 and it is 70 degrees. It has been so warm here that it didn't even feel like Christmas or New Years this year. So maybe it is global warming. I like warmer weather but this is ridiculous. My husband is loving it though. Just took the motorcycle out for a spin.

Satellite
It has only been over a year since we moved in, but we finally have satellite television. We had cable at our previous residence and we were sure spoiled. We have been using rabbit ears for the last year and it has not been easy to watch television and we only got about 6 channels. Actually, it wasn't so bad. I am not tied to the television. But it is nice to have choices and especially a clear picture!
Snow!

A couple of weeks ago we had snow. It was beautiful and we got about 5 inches. When we woke up that morning there were three deer looking for food in the snow. It is hard for them because there is not much food around. They were so beautiful. The dogs were in the basements so the deer were not afraid being so close to the house. The dogs love the snow, but would rather be inside where it is warm.

Sidewalk, fence, etc!
We finally have a sidewalk to our front door! It only took a year, but with cost over-runs on building the house we thought we could add this later. Of course walking on OSB for a year was not pretty. I wish the sidewalk had been completed by the time we hosted my office party, but weather did not cooperate. There were so many dry days during the summer and it would have been a perfect time for putting that in. Oh well.
Next is the fence for the dogs. Poor boys have been in a glorified pen and now we have the fence in the works. Should be in by sometime in February. It will go out into the wooded area so they can really run and stretch their legs. Smell interesting smells and maybe check-out some of the local fauna. Since deer season ended, I haven't seen any deer. I hope that some of them survived. I know from hearing gun shots that many probably did not.
We have lost power a few times the last couple of weeks. I have been really wanting a generator. When you have a well and pump, no power means no plumbing. I am not one to complain, but having plumbing is important to me! I would really like a water softener as well. Little by little we will get there.

Decorating for Christmas
Is it important to decorate outside for Christmas out in the boonies? Very few people will see it. The mail carrier, our neighbors next door, and maybe a visitor or two. But, then again, we like the colored lights, the lights in the windows, the wreath on the door. And that is more important. It makes the house warmer and more welcoming when we come home from work. And, it helps to get us in the Christmas spirit.
At Halloween we had no trick-or-treaters. But I was prepared, just in case. I think the kids in the area go into town to do their trick-or-treating. But we got the pumpkins and put up the scarecrow and hung the Indian corn on the door.
I will continue to decorate outside. Even if it is only for me.

Fall Colors

While our house was being built, I came out to the site and the fall colors were perfect! The sun was filtering through the leaves and the beauty was breath-taking. Last year we were in a drought and the colors weren't nearly as good.
This week the colors are again perfect and I went out and took pictures. A deer eating grass on the side of our driveway seemed to be oblivious of me as I snapped picture after picture. I wish I could capture the beauty in photographs of what I can see with my eyes. But, these will have to do.

Ice Cream
Having lived in a city, I am used to being able to go out and getting whatever I might want...like ice cream. My husband came home from work and said "I have a surprise for you." And, we got in the car and drove into town. He was so excited until we pulled into the driveway of the Ice Cream shop and it was closed. It was only 6pm. How can it be closed? We drove all around town and it was like the sidewalks had rolled up and nothing was open. (Heavy sigh) Here it was June, day light saving time, school is out. How can nothing be open? So we went home.
Good news though..A new bar opened up in town. Not an ice cream shop, but it serves food and beer later than 6. The owners are really nice and the atmosphere is comfortable. I think it will become our new favorite place!
